The unique thing about this traded-in Yishama, is that it is made of Ember Steel. Nowadays, they are only available in stainless.
Dwarf is minor mood, during which minor seventh and fourth skipped. So you have five of the seven notes from the minor series. A slightly different tone choice than with the regular Pygmy.
What Dwarf truly unique is that there is no jump between the thing and the next tone. Whereas almost every tuning after the ding skips a few notes in the sequence, at Dwarf more part of the other tones, as it were.
Dwarf is thus not so much a tuning with a bass (the central centre, the thing), and melody around it. In this tuning, a single entity forms, where the ding is part of the melody, and the focus as a whole is more on melody than on bass.
By the name Dwarf you would quickly think of a low mood. Yet Dwarf just a little higher in terms of tuning. This contributes to the beautiful melodic and sparkling character of this tuning. Definitely a unique tuning within hand pan tunings!
Ember Steel
Ember Steel is a material based on stainless steel, with modifications made to affect the sound. These modifications also affect its appearance, giving Ember Steel its distinctive reddish-brown copper colour.
Ember Steel is characterised by an above-average reverb, with tones that articulate a broad spectrum. Ember Steel gives nice deep lows, but at the same time has quite a present high.
You can recognise this by a warm sound, with lots of sparkling highs at the same time. This broad spectrum, combined with that characteristic long reverb, makes Ember Steel an ideal material for some slower, meditative and calming playing.
