The F2 Pygmy is a completely unique tuning. Just because of the enormously low ding, which is considerably lower than virtually any other tuning. Other F2 tunings are being added all the time, but the first tuning in this area was F2 Pygmy.
The structure of the F2 Pygmy is similar to that of Low Pygmy. The build-up is exactly the same as Low Pygmy, but then another bass note is added, which is as much as 8 notes lower than the second-lowest note. So a Low Pygmy with an added bass.
In the extended variant, this huge jump of eight tones is partly filled in by two extra bass pads at the bottom. The high is also further complemented by smaller bottom pads on the front of this pan.
With these extensions of bass and treble at the bottom of this handpan, you get a huge range at your disposal. From mesmerising and overwhelming lows, to sparkling and crisp highs.
The F2 Pygmy is an impressive tuning. The low frequencies in this pan create a nice warm blanket that is easy to play over. This combined with the fine and accessible playable structure of Low Pygmy makes it a fine tuning to play. Highly recommended for bass enthusiasts!
High Chrome Titanium Stainless Steel
High Chrome Titanium Stainless Steel is a stainless steel-based material inspired by the sounds of Ember Steel.
It is a material that shows especially strong similarities to Ember Steel: an above-average long reverb, with a sound that reproduces both a nice deep long as well as a fresh and sparkling high.
High Chrome Titanium Stainless Steel often has a slightly warmer and rounder character than Ember Steel. The top high, which can be recognised by a sparkling or bright sound, is often present just a little more subtly than with Ember Steel. Sometimes this is also due to a slightly thicker shell, which also affects the sound of each material.
