Samasta D Kurd 10+2 - Ember

Kurd is the most well-known and popular handpan tuning, and the most neutral arrangement there is. It is the full minor tuning, without any notes being skipped. This makes it the exact same minor scale as you would play on a guitar, piano or any other melodic instrument.

What makes Kurd unique is that you can still go either way with it. Because all tones of the minor series pass by, you are the one who gives colour and direction to your playing. Other tunings often skip one or more tones, which also opens up nice paths, but in doing so also steers and colours your playing.

With the extended version, you have two extra bass tones at your disposal, which make the jump from the ding (the central middle) to the next tones a little smaller. These two extra bass tones at the bottom of your handpan add a whole new dimension and huge possibilities to your playing.

Ember Steel

Ember Steel is a material based on stainless steel, with modifications made to affect the sound. These modifications also affect its appearance, giving Ember Steel its distinctive reddish-brown copper colour.

Ember Steel is characterised by an above-average reverb, with tones that articulate a broad spectrum. Ember Steel gives nice deep lows, but at the same time has quite a present high.

You can recognise this by a warm sound, with lots of sparkling highs at the same time. This broad spectrum, combined with that characteristic long reverb, makes Ember Steel an ideal material for some slower, meditative and calming playing.
