Kurd is the most well-known and popular handpan tuning, and the most neutral arrangement there is. It is the full minor tuning, without any notes being skipped. This makes it the exact same minor scale as you would play on a guitar, piano or any other melodic instrument.
What makes Kurd unique is that you can still go either way with it. Because all tones of the minor series pass by, you are the one who gives colour and direction to your playing. Other tunings often skip one or more tones, which also opens up nice paths, but in doing so also steers and colours your playing.
With their diameter of 48 cm instead of 53 cm, these mini handpans are a bit handier than regular handpans. An ideal size if you find it difficult to hold a handpan on your lap! Also, this smaller size gives these instruments a more subdued sound.
With this extended version, you have two extra bass tones at your disposal, which make the jump from the ding (the central middle) to the next tones a little smaller. These two extra bass tones at the bottom of your handpan add a whole new dimension and enormous possibilities to your playing. You also have 1 or 2 extra treble notes, for just a little extra melodic possibilities.
