Aegean is a key with a distinct character of its own. Like a Nordlys, it is built from the lydian scale. Lydian is related to major, which is known for its upbeat character.
The difference between major and lydian is that lydian has a slightly more dreamy and magical character. This addition of dreamy tones makes it a colourful scale, which is very imaginative.
Aegean is a tuning that starts lower than usual. Usually, after the ding (the central middle) there is a jump of five notes to the next tone. With Aegean, this is a jump of only three notes. This makes it possible to find above-average low notes within this tuning. It adds to the warm character this tuning has.
To enable this low start, some other notes are skipped in the tone sequence. The major second and major sixth are skipped. Skipping these notes also makes it a little easier to find beautiful and harmonious harmonies. This makes Aegean a tuning that is easily intuitive and free to play!
Ember Steel
Ember Steel is a material based on stainless steel, with modifications made to affect the sound. These modifications also affect its appearance, giving Ember Steel its distinctive reddish-brown copper colour.
Ember Steel is characterised by an above-average reverb, with tones that articulate a broad spectrum. Ember Steel gives nice deep lows, but at the same time has quite a present high.
You can recognise this by a warm sound, with lots of sparkling highs at the same time. This broad spectrum, combined with that characteristic long reverb, makes Ember Steel an ideal material for some slower, meditative and calming playing.
