These instruments are often used for meditation and relaxation sessions, thanks to their unique, soothing sound that helps people to relax and unwind. Steel tongue drums are made of steel and usually feature a circular groove pattern around the drum. By striking different parts of the drum, different tones can be produced. RAV drums have a similar design, but are made from a special type of steel that produces an even deeper and richer sound. The popularity of RAV drums and steel tongue drums is partly due to their portability and ease of play. They are easy to take with you when travelling, as well as to a meditation or yoga session. What’s more, they are available in various sizes and colours, so you can choose a drum that perfectly suits your style and preferences. Difference between a handpan and a steel tongue drum A steel tongue drum is often smaller than a handpan. With a handpan, the notes are produced by striking the steel, whereas with a steel tongue drum, the notes are created by making cuts in the steel (the tongues). This makes crafting a handpan more time-consuming and therefore more expensive. Although the steel tongue drum produces a beautiful sound, it is incomparable to the unique character of the handpan and its rich, deep sound.
